San Antonio is a major home to the military, particularly the Air Force, which trains most of its future pilots and specialty personnel here. We’ve got Lackland Air Force Base, Kelly, Randolph, Brooks City Base, and Fort Houston (Army). Then there’s the Aerospace and Bioscience & Health Care industries, both of which have enormous impacts on the economy. You’ll likely find many of your neighbors in one of these fields—it is said that 1 in 7 San Antonians are in the Bioscience & Health Care industry. Tourism is another huge industry here, in fact the second largest industry in the city, employing almost 90,000 members of our community and serving several million tourists each year. We’re served by the San Antonio International Airport, and backed up by the excellent Stinson Airport, which is ideal for smaller hops and most domestic travel. San Antonio is easily accessible by train, streetcar, bus and automobile too. But remember to bring you’re sneakers—we’re a great walking town. This is perfect way to get to know our various neighborhoods, including the famous River Walk area, with its shops, restaurants, and nightclubs bordering the San Antonio River. San Antonio has several great neighborhoods to choose from. I’ll be able to help you make the perfect choice. San Antonio schools are excellent, and our NBA champions, The San Antonio Spurs, play at the Alamodome and this is a town of loyal fans. The climate here is perfect, ranging from the low 60’s in the winter to the high 90’s in July and August, with enough rainfall in May to make everything bloom. What more could you want? Come join us! We’d love to have you as a neighbor! Now here’s a fact you might find interesting: Alamo Heights is a city within the city of San Antonio! Alamo Heights incorporated as a separate city in 1922, with its own local government, an independent school district, a very focused business committee intent on carefully growing its already thriving economy, and an active Zoning and Planning Commission that tightly regulates growth and construction style. Alamo Heights is a unique combination of past and present. The city prides itself on its genuine village atmosphere (which it takes great pains to maintain) and on its place in Texas history. The city is full of historic homes and buildings, and many of the 7,400 residents were born here and are planning to stay. The median family income is considerably higher in Alamo Heights, at around $92,000/year. Alamo Heights is located about 5 miles northeast of San Antonio’s city centre. Back in the old days the area was an Indian campground and a favorite resting place for explorers. In 1897 the Brackenridge Family sold an estate and 200 acres of land to the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word. Today Incarnate Word College marks the boundary line between San Antonio and Alamo Heights. Fernridge, the estate that was sold with the land, is preserved as a museum.
